Features of Hahajima Island
The Unusual Topography and Geology of Hahajima Island
The Hahajima Islands, which were created after Chichijima Island as the result of volcanic activity, are home to unique geology and geographical topography. In the Sekimon area in the northeast of Hahajima Island, you can see raised karst landforms marked by the unique unevenness of eroded and weathered limestone. On the sea cliffs that stretch from Miyukinohama Beach to Nankinhama Beach in the southeast of Hahajima, you can see rare fossils of marine protozoans called nummelites.
